We appreciate your interest in employment with the Metro Special Police Department. The Department employs many talented and diverse full-time and part-time employees who protect and serve within our jurisdiction.
To be considered for employment with our Department, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age for a DC Special Police Officer (SPO) or 18 years of age for non-commissioned positions;
- Graduated from an accredited high school or institution with a High School Diploma or GED;
- No convictions of a felony crime, domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, murder, attempted murder, assault on a police officer, or assault with a deadly weapon;
- Be free from any physical, emotional, or mental conditions which might adversely affect an individual to perform the duties of a SPO or other non-commissioned positions with the department;
- Be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. DC SPOs must be a US citizen at the time of being commissioned, there is no exception for this;
- Be of good moral character, as determined by a pre-employment investigation;
- Have reliable means of transportation to and from work;
- Have at least three (3) years of experience in the position in which you are applying to, unless the position is entry level.
